Frequently Asked Questions

Why should we have our wedding videotaped?

There are a lot of reasons to have your wedding taped and made into an edited final production. Here is a short list of what we consider some of the most important ones.

A wedding video on DVD is a lasting document of one of your life’s most important moments. Each wedding is a live event which will never be duplicated. Many couples say that their wedding day went by so fast that it was a blur and they could hardly remember what happened. A video can bring back the details of the day. The bride and groom see more on the video than they did during the wedding and reception. Also, weddings in Hawaii are especially beautiful due to the tropical environment and a well done wedding video will reflect these exotic surroundings. Additionally, many couples choose to have very intimate, small wedding ceremonies in Hawaii without any guests. When they return home they can show the DVD to family and friends.

What will our edited video look like?

Every couple's wedding is unique and the finished product will depend on how much coverage you select, but in general our wedding videos follow a basic structure. We start with a title graphic and background music then dissolve into a series of scenic shots of the Big Island and the wedding location. We fade the music out as the ceremony and live music begin. We intercut between our two camera angles for the duration of the ceremony. After the ceremony we shoot footage of guests offering hugs and kisses of congratulations, the marriage contract signing and the photography session with the still photographer. These shots are set to music in an attractive montage. Then, if there is a reception, we shoot the cocktail hour, live music, dinner, dancing, toasts, bouquet/garter toss and cake cutting. If the couple requests interviews, we will include guest comments and then end the video with a title graphic of congratulations.

Editing is one area in which Visionary Video truly excels. Co-owner Lynn Beittel was a professional editor for television news, documentaries and magazine shows for many years before starting this video production business.

Our Uncle Fred owns a video camera and has volunteered to shoot our wedding, how will your shooting differ from his?

The key to a good wedding video, especially those at outdoor locations on the beach, is good audio. We put small wireless microphones on all the key people who will speak or play music during the ceremony. Without wireless microphones, the viewer will hear little more than the sound of the wind and waves. In our videos, viewers can actually hear more of what is said than the guests who attended the ceremony. We shoot everything on tripods with digital cameras so our pictures are clear, crisp and steady. We are also accustomed to extreme backlighting situations which occur at sunset and adjust our exposures accordingly. Plus an edited video is many times more entertaining than an unedited one. And finally, do you really want your Uncle Fred standing in the middle of an aisle blocking other people’s views? We always try our best to stay out of the way and not attract any attention since we strongly feel that the more invisible we are, the better.

How can I best prepare for our wedding video?

The more we know about what is going to happen and when, the easier it is for us to shoot your wedding. Please let us know what kind of music you are planning, who will speak and anything else specific to your wedding ceremony. If you are having a reception, let us know what is on the program and when these events will take place. For example, will the toasts come before or after the meal, are you planning a “first dance”, will you throw the bouquet?

If we decide to hire your company for a video, what should we do?

Please contact us by e-mail, Lynnb123@earthlink.net, or phone, (808)322-3992, (don’t forget the time difference) and let us know your wedding date. After you decide on the type of package you would like, a 25% unrefundable deposit will secure the date. We take credit cards, Paypal and checks. The balance is due on the day of the wedding. You can order additional copies before or after the event. We will keep a master copy of your edited video for a year.

How quickly can you edit our wedding video?

That really depends on how many other projects are lined up for editing before yours, but generally we will get it to you within a month for our shorter weddings and two months if we shoot a lot of footage of your wedding and reception. If you need a “quick turnaround” so your video can be shown at an event back home, please let us know in advance and we will try to accommodate your needs. There may be an additional charge for quick turnaround due to faster shipping and overtime.
